Coaching Requirements

Are you ready to Coach?

To be a coach, you must meet the below requirements.  At the beginning of each year the club children’s officer will gather the relevant names from Team management to initiate the required training (including renewals) otherwise please contact the club children’s officer who can support & advise on how to complete your relevant training.

  1. Child Safeguarding Training – Valid for 3 years

After 3 years you may avail of the Safeguarding 1 Refresher workshop (Valid for further 3 years)

  1. Garda Vetting / AccessNI Vetting – Valid for 3 years

In the Camogie Association any person who carries out a role of responsibility such as coaching, managing or training underage teams that contain any player under 18 years of age must be vetted. It also applies to organising underage activities or refereeing underage games.

Regardless of vetting held for other organisations you must still be vetted through one of the Gaelic Games Associations (Camogie/LGFA/GAA).

Before expiry you must re-vet. 

  1. Introduction to Coaching Gaelic Games Foundation Award

This is a beginner’s course that enables coaches to create fun environments, gain practical experience, develop communication and leadership skills and to Coach, Educate & Inspire.

  1. Be a Registered member of your camogie club

Rule: All persons who train with teams and all persons who coach teams are required to be registered members of the Camogie Association. Each management must ensure and be satisfied that its playing members, members who officiate at games and members involved in training/managing/coaching are covered by insurance. Any member not insured may not play, officiate at games or manage/coach teams.

  1. Code of Behaviour (Underage)

All coaches must sign the Code of Behaviors (Underage)

  1. Train The Trainer for Coaches

Athenry Camogie club will provide its coaches with an opportunity to attend a workshop providing them with the initial information & tools they need to be successful in their role as coaches. It will provide coaches with an opportunity to share their coaching experience & learn from others.
